Idea Napkin #2

1) You. I am a 21-year-old creative thinker who is always looking for the next big thing to solve people’s problems. I am a persistent person who doesn’t typically take no for an answer. Some of my skills involve strategically planning and executing ideas. I have great leadership skills which helps to get more done effectively.
2) What are you offering to customers? I am offering an app that connects to your air conditioning system and smart watch to adjust your air temperature based on your body temperature. The app will allow you to average out temperatures between multiple people in your home or just use your own. When you leave your home you can pick the temperature you would like it to stay on and then when you get back it will readjust to your temperature.
3) Who are you offering it to? I am targeting customers in their mid-twenties who have stable jobs but are also still new in the job world and don’t mind spending money on a product like this. I will also be focusing on luxurious rental apartments so that they will have the power to change out every air conditioning system to install mine into the homes.
4) Why do they care? My customers will pay for this product because it is an innovative product that will help keep them comfortable in their homes. From the people that I have interviewed I believe that this is an unmet need that customers would be willing to buy in order to improve their home and comfort levels.
5) What are your core competencies? There are other companies that have similar products that can be controlled from a smart phone, like ADT, but there are no other companies that have an app linked to a smart watch to monitor body temperature and adjust the air accordingly.

I believe that these elements do fit together and would help to make a successful product. I do think that my best bet at having the most profitable business would be to target rental complexes that are owned by big management companies (think big cities). I think that the hardest part would be designing the app and air conditioner to work effectively, but I would hire tech workers to help me perfect it.

Feedback Memo:
After reading my feedback I got some very useful information! One comment mentioned that she has a similar system from ADT which I included in my new idea napkin, but it was useful because she loves her app which proves to me that my product could be just as successful. My second feedback comment mentioned how it may be hard to get rental companies to change out the thermostats but I do think that a deal could be arranged in a big apartment complex to make that change. It may be difficult but I believe with persistence I could make it happen.

  1. Hi Brooke! I loved reading about your product because I am very tech savvy! I was a little confused with the idea of averaging out multiple temperatures between roommates but other than that I loved it. I agree that your client base will care and keep buying because of their need to have the newest technology and that will never change. Overall a great job!

  2. Brooke,

I think you really took the feedback that was left on your first idea napkin and implemented it into this one. The fact that you can recognize there are other companies that can offer similar things but you know what makes your product distinct from that is important. You make yourself stand out from what others can already do. My only concern would be for consumers that don't wear a smart watch or a fitbit. I know personally I don't enjoy having things on my wrist when I am relaxing at home.

  3. Brooke,
You do a great job with this idea napkin and explaining who your target audience is. It's important that you know who you are going to target as your prototypical customer and you do a good job mentioning that you'd make the most profit on selling your product to rental complexes. You also do a great job comparing your product to a similar product and explaining why yours is better.

  4. Hi Brooke,
You did a really great job identifying who you are and the skills you have. Adding more features like being able to readjust the temperature for the time you return home sounds very convenient. Good job responding to previous feedback from idea napkin 1 and implementing it for this. Recognizing competition helps you stay competitive in the market.
