Celebrating Failure

  1. This past year I moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. I made this move by myself at 20-years-old with no family. The hardest thing I have experienced was moving to a town full of insanely talented people and trying to show my talents and creativity. In June I released my first single under the stage name “Brooklyn”. After releasing the song I realized how difficult it was for listeners to find my music because of how many other artists have that name. I knew that I needed to add a second name but didn’t know where to start because I knew I wasn’t going to use my legal name for music. For two months I sat and thought and brainstormed. When I finally thought I had the right name something would give me a reason not to use it. This may not seem like a big deal but it really put a hold on the single and my music in general. I took down the single because I didn’t want to cause confusion and I knew that I would need to release it under the new name was I figured that out. After two months I finally had a moment where I just knew what my artist name was going to be. I ended up solidifying “Brooklyn Steele” as my artist name and I have never felt so confident about a decision.
  1. What I learned from this was that things are not always going to go our way. Not everything is going to be easy. Something like a name change didn’t seem like it would be a big deal but it was! It made me stop working on music, made me feel so confused and even had me questioning if I should be going down this career path. I decided to keep pushing forward and keep reminding myself why i am in Nashville and why I create music. Now I have two singles out, a music video and another music video being released in a few weeks. It is so amazing what can happen by looking forward and not giving up. Challenges really do make us stronger and I’m happy that I went through this struggle because it did teach me a lot. This class has also definitely taught me a lot about failure and how you should embrace it. Although going through failure can be tough, it is a blessing to go through because it teaches you to keep going and keep trying. I have learned a lot about finding new ways to make your goals happen.

  1. Brooke,
I think it's really amazing that you moved to Nashville to pursue your dreams. That is a huge risk because there are no guarantees and you're in a completely new place. I completely agree with you that failure is really difficult but it definitely makes us stronger as individuals. If we never failed it would mean we never challenged ourselves so I completely agree. I hope you do great things in Nashville, and I wish you luck in all your endeavors.

  2. Brooke,
That's awesome that you moved to Nashville to chase your music dreams. It's frustrating when we fail and must keep on trying different things, but we wouldn't get better in life without any struggles. I agree with you that this class has taught me a lot about failure, but the biggest lesson I've learned from this class is that failure is just an opportunity to improve.

  3. Hi Brooke
I think it’s really great that you moved to Nashville to follow your dream and career in country music specially doing everything by yourself. No risk no rewards; and it seems like you’ve taken a lot of risk that will pay off. Keep doing a good job in Nashville and it’s great that you learned something from this class.
