Meet Allie! My Customer Avatar



My customer avatar is Allie and she is a 29-year-old lawyer. Her hobbies include taking spin classes, hanging out at the beach and catching up with her friends. She currently drives a white Jeep Cherokee. Her favorite shows include watching The Office and Greys Anatomy. She does not have children but would like to have at least two. She is in a serious relationship but is not engaged yet. Her favorite kind of book to read is anything motivational or self-inspiring because she is always looking to improve herself. Allie uses her Apple watch for obvious reasons such as having texts sent to it, seeing the time, social media, etc., but she loves that she can track her fitness goals and monitor calories on it as well. Allie is the perfect customer for my thermostat product because she likes to do things for herself, she already has a smart watch and she is at an age where she is getting used to making a good amount of money and doesn’t mind spending it on some things for herself.

I think that me and Allie have a few things in common. Although I am only 21, I see myself being successful enough at 29 that I can splurge on a product that may not be “necessary” but is something that I would enjoy having. I am also very into being active and buying things for myself every once in a while. I think that there is a coincidence in Allie and I because that is the kind of person I see myself being when I am older, other than being a lawyer. Overall I think she is the perfect customer, as would other customers in their late 20s because they normally are still in a stage where they will spend that extra money on a product like this.

    Brooke,

    You did a really great job describing your avatar. With the details you gave I really felt like I knew this person you were describing. I like that you gave her a name, I didn't think about that but it definitely makes it seem more real and makes her more personable. I completely agree that it's not a coincidence our avatars are similar to us. We are designing a product we ourselves would enjoy, so of course we would have similarities to the target consumer.

    Hi Brooke,

    You did a really good job with the amount of detail to each element of your customer avatar even the color of the car she drives. Being able to do things from the Apple watch creates the feeling of wanting to be able to do more, as someone that uses the apple watch every day even to sleep to track the quality of sleep this would be very helpful.

    You do a great job creating a whole person in your avatar because you use some great details to describe her. She does seem like the perfect customer for your product because your product is meant for families or young professionals who can afford to purchase a product to improve their living condition. I agree that it’s not a coincidence that our avatars are like us because we would purchase our own product, so we create avatars that we think would also want to purchase our avatar.

    Hi Brooke! I loved reading about your customer! You took a more specific and story like approach to this assignment but I loved the realness it created. I definitely see myself having some similarities as your ideal customer and can see the large demographic your product could really serve. I think it can even go as far as being a great family feature that has so many people residing in one home. Hopefully I have my life as together as your avatar in 8 years! Overall I really enjoyed reading about your customer avatar and you did a good job!

What's Next

Existing Market.  I think that as the brand launches and we begin to evaluate the progress of the product, then changes will be made accordingly. If we want to create new features then that will be able to be added to the app for an easy solution. I talked to Matt who said he loves the idea because he already has a smart watch so it would be easy to use once the thermostat is installed. He thinks it is a unique idea and said that in the future we could consider adding features such as a speaking aspect like how people can ask Alexa to do things through a speaker. So a possibility could be adding a voice feature for people to tell the Arm Stat what to change the temperature to. I interviewed a girl named Kaitlyn and I told her about how I would love to get on Shark tank and she thought this would be a great way to gain exposure if I was accepted on the show. Buyer Behavior Pt. 2

I have focused my interviews on people who like to have the newest and most innovative technology. My first interviewee, Tim, told me when he is picking a product he does look at the quality and price. Since he is an engineer he likes to know he is buying a high quality product that is worth the price he is paying. My second interviewee, Carlie, said she cares a lot about the style of the product and the price. If she is going to be spending a higher amount of money on the product she wants to make sure it looks good and will catch attention. My third interviewee, Dominick, cares most about the quality and the price of the product. He does not want to finance a product but does like having new technology. The common alternative from all of my interviewees was price. They all would be willing to pay whatever price as long as it looked good or was good quality.
