Idea Napkin #1

1.     I am a 21-year-old artistic female who loves to help other people. I have never been big on numbers, so math is not my thing but I do love the creative process and finding ways to help solve people’s problems. My skills involve being able to come up with a creative plan and execute it. Regarding my business concept, I would love to come up with the creative side for my product which includes designing the app and managing how customers can access and control their air conditioner through their apple or smart watch. If this business were to take off then it would play a major role in my life, especially if it was providing an income!
2.     My product is an app that connects from your air conditioning system to your smart watch that will keep track of your body temperature and adjust the air to make sure it is always set to a temperature to keep you comfortable. There will be settings that allow you to average the temperature of multiple people if you share your home, as well as a setting that allows you to pick one temperature to keep it on if you are leaving the house. Once you get home the system will re-measure your body temperature and adjust accordingly.
3.     I will primarily be targeting customers in their late-twenties and up. I am predicting that most of my customers will be out of college and making enough money to be able to spend it on a product like this. I will also be targeting high class apartment complexes that may want to have the specific air conditioning system installed so that their residents can simply buy the app and connect it to their smart watch.
4.     My customers will care because the majority of people that I interviewed agreed that they like to be comfortable in their homes. They don’t like being too hot or too cold or trying to work out a comfortable temperature of their home if they live with a roommate. With this app it would make it easy for roommates to select the setting that can average both of their temperatures to find a happy medium. It is also perfect for people who live alone because the temperature will strictly be based off of them.
5.     There are inventions of air conditioning systems that can be controlled from your smart phones, but there isn’t a product that can adjust the air based on your body temperature. This is unique because nobody has done it and it is a new and innovative way to keep consumers happy in their homes.

I think that all of these elements do link together. The product will easily be marketed to people of many different ages and give consumers the comfort they desire. The more I have been brainstorming I would love to pursue the idea of getting higher class apartment complexes to get the system installed because it will make it cheaper for the consumer since they will only have to purchase the app. They indirectly would be paying for the system because the charge would most likely be in their rent. The apartment complexes will be able to charge more because it will be a higher tech unit, thus making their money back. There would also be deals for bulk purchases like a complex would need. I think that many of these elements go together and this could be a very successful product.

  1. Hi! I love your idea for the air conditioner control over an app. I currently have my home set up by ADT so I'm able to adjust my A/C, lock and unlock my doors, and also alarm my house through the app. It's so convenient to be able to adjust the air from anywhere in the house and I think this idea will take off. Your hardest obstacle will come from competing with other top companies such as ADT for a steady client base.

  2. Brooke,
You do a great job explaining your background and how you would want to take on a more creative role with this product and working on the design of the app. You also do a great job of explaining who your clients are and I agree that the best option would be pursuing higher class apartment complexes. The only thing that I think will give you trouble is getting an entire apartment complex to put in your new product because I don't think they would allow just some people to change their A/C systems.
