Testing the Hypothesis - Part 2

Who: People who fall outside of the boundary are big businesses such as grocery stores, malls, etc., because with so many people going in and out of stores there wouldn’t be a realistic way to average out the temperature based on employees working there. You can’t have the employees inside determining the “perfect” temperature because customers will be coming from outside which can be hot or cold depending on the year and the employees are inside the whole time so they are not exposed to temperature changes. A “comfortable” temperature for an employee working could be drastically different from a customer.

What: The desire to want to feel comfortable in your home because of the temperature differs from the desire to use that money elsewhere, such as a new stove to cook. It differs when a person has to figure out where to use their money.

Why: They have similar needs of wanting to be a comfortable temperature but the opportunity is not the same for an apartment or small home versus a grocery store. In a small home or apartment the temperature can easily be regulated between one person or averaging the temperature of a few different people. But in a store with many customers coming in and out it is not something that would really be a concern for big business owners.

  1. Hey Brooke! This is a really cool idea and good job defining the boundaries of your opportunity a little bit further. I agree that exploiting this opportunity in big area places would be more difficult to do, showing that your idea is ideal for small houses and businesses. I think after realizing more constraints to your opportunity, you also can come closer to finding the perfect conditions for your idea!

  2. Hi Brooke!
I agree that it will be extremely difficult to find the right balance between the right temperature for the employees and the right temperature for the customer that walks into a store. It will be a great add on to making your home a smart home, but I think that more people will like the idea than actually be willing to pay for the changes to enjoy always having a comfortable temperature.

  3. Brooke,
You do an excellent job of explaining who has a need for this product and who doesn't. It would be nearly impossible for an app that makes every single person comfortable in a big business. I love the idea to make an app that changes the temperature to make one person comfortable or takes an average of the people living there to make a few people comfortable. Now that you know who has a need for this product you can market to the right clients.
