Testing the Hypothesis Part 1

1.   I have decided to pursue my opportunity of the issue with your house never being the right temperature. My idea is to have an app that can run through a fitbit, apple watch or other smart watches.
2.    The average person wants their homes’ temperature to make them feel comfortable so that they don’t have to constantly be dealing with using blankets and not using blankets or jackets, etc.
The who: The average person
The what: People wanting their homes temperature to adjust based on their body temperature.
The why: It can be frustrating when your house is too hot or too cold and you’re constantly switching between blankets and no blankets.
3.    Although everyone may not have the same need, I believe that if there is one person who has this need then there are definitely others. The biggest boundaries of this need would be figuring out the logistics of an air conditioning system that can also connect to your smart phones and smart watches. I do not think that everybody has this need, or if they do, I don’t know if they would spend the money to help the problem.
4.    After conducting my interviews, I discovered that 2 out of the 5 people would be willing to purchase the smart watch app that would monitor their body temperature and adjust the air accordingly. What I noticed was that the 2 people who said that they would be willing to purchase this lived alone. Therefore, they would only have to worry about the comfort of themselves in the air. I interviewed a married couple and they talked about how they fight over the air because she likes it to be warmer and her husband likes to keep it cold. So she said that it would probably cause more problems trying to determine who gets to wear the watch and determine the temperature. 2 of the 3 people who said that they wouldn’t get the product agreed that the need is there and they have this issue but they just wouldn’t buy the product because they didn’t think it was necessary. The last person had the need and wanted the product but didn’t currently have a smart watch and wouldn’t want to spend a few hundred dollars on a watch and more money for the app.
5.    After my interviews I know that the issue is there but the need for a product to fix it isn’t something urgent that people would go out of their way to buy.

  1. Hey Brooke, I really like your idea of having an app to control the temperature around the house. This is something I’ve actually looked into purchasing when I moved apartments, unfortunately the only solution I found at that time was buying a smart thermostat for over $300 and then having to install it myself but having an app would definitely make it easier.

  2. Brooke,
I like your idea for an app that changes temperature based off body temperature. I have the problem of getting hot and cold some days and must put a blanket on or take it off because my body temperature changes and it's hard to find a comfortable temperature sometimes. This would be a cool idea if multiple people could have their body temperature linked up to their individual room and the common living areas could take an average of the different body temperatures, so everyone is comfortable for the most part.
